Few places in Chicago combine skyline views, lakefront scenery, and a quiet atmosphere quite like Milton Lee Olive Park. It’s one of my favorite locations for surprise proposals because it offers a beautiful view of the Chicago skyline while still feeling tucked away from the crowds of nearby Navy Pier.

Jake reached out to me to help plan one of the biggest moments of his life: surprising his girlfriend, Allison, with a proposal. We carefully discussed the timing, the exact location, and how to keep everything a secret while making sure I was in the perfect spot to document the moment without being noticed.

To make the surprise believable, Allison thought she was simply meeting her sister with her family at Milton Lee Olive Park for skyline family photos. As she arrived, everything seemed completely normal. Her sister casually took her purse, and in that instant Allison realized something special was about to happen.

Moments later, Jake emerged from behind the bushes and walked toward her. As soon as she saw him, the emotions took over. There were tears, laughter, and complete surprise as he got down on one knee with the Chicago skyline behind them. It was one of those genuine, emotional moments that reminds me why I love photographing proposals.

After Allison happily said yes, the weather added an unexpected twist. Heavy rain began pouring down almost immediately. Instead of running for cover, the two embraced the moment. The rain created a romantic atmosphere that felt straight out of The Notebook, making for unforgettable photographs that perfectly captured the excitement and emotion of the day.
