I recently had the opportunity to photograph Tyler’s surprise proposal to Jenny at the beautiful Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool in Chicago. It was especially fun because I had recently photographed Tyler’s friend Matt’s proposal to Carolyn at the very same location. This time, it was Tyler’s turn to create a memorable moment of his own.

The Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool is one of my favorite locations for a Chicago surprise proposal. Tucked away in Lincoln Park, it offers a peaceful setting with natural landscapes, winding paths, and unique architectural features that make it feel removed from the busy city. It’s a popular spot for couples looking for a private and scenic place to propose.

When we arrived, the stone pavilion was busier than expected with visitors enjoying the beautiful weather. Rather than waiting for the area to clear, Tyler made a quick decision to propose on the wooden platform near the entrance. It turned out to be the perfect choice, giving them a quiet moment together while still surrounded by the beauty of the gardens.

Before Tyler could even begin speaking, Jenny became emotional. She had a feeling the proposal was coming, but that didn’t make the moment any less meaningful. Tears quickly filled her eyes as Tyler got down on one knee. After an enthusiastic “yes,” the excitement set in as they celebrated the beginning of their engagement.

We spent the rest of the session exploring the Lily Pool and nearby Lincoln Park for engagement portraits. The combination of lush greenery, peaceful walkways, and timeless scenery makes this one of the best proposal locations in Chicago.
